How to crop an image
Step 1: Add your image and open the Transform panel.
Step 2: Press Start cropping. A selection appears over the image.
Step 3: Drag inside it to move it, or drag a corner to resize. Pick 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 or 3:2 for a fixed ratio.
Step 4: Apply the crop, choose a format and download.
When cropping is the right tool
Cropping changes what the image contains; resizing changes how big it is. Reaching for the wrong one is the usual cause of a stretched or awkwardly framed result.
Fixed ratios exist because destinations demand them: 1:1 for profile pictures, 16:9 for video thumbnails, 4:3 and 3:2 for print sizes. Choosing the ratio first avoids a second attempt.
The selection can be driven entirely from the keyboard: arrow keys move it, Shift with the arrows resizes it. That is not a niche feature, it is the difference between a usable tool and one that requires a mouse.
Questions
Does cropping reduce quality?
No. Cropping removes pixels outside the selection and leaves the rest untouched. Any quality change comes from the format you save as afterwards.
Can I crop to an exact size in pixels?
Crop to the area you want first, then set exact dimensions in the resize fields. The output size is shown as you work.
Can I undo a crop?
Yes. Undo steps back through every change, and Reset returns the image to how it arrived. The original file is never modified.
Can I crop without a mouse?
Yes. Focus the selection and use the arrow keys to move it, or Shift with the arrow keys to resize it.
